HealthKit & Me

Like most of us I’ve happily used HealthKit as a by-product of iPhone and Watch since owning both devices. Tracking steps & workouts, then heat rate and now and again ECG (I’m still on Series 5, so no blood oxygen level for me yet) has been a breeze.

Activity and more

An unwanted upgrade is required when you’re told by your health professional that now you have to make some changes, set some goals and take monitoring your health to a new level.

So I thought what can I add to aid me in that change… help me in that monitoring, expanding HealthKit data.

Tracking my stats

Queue Withings Body Cardio scale & BPM Connect blood pressure monitor., both easy to set up and use as part of my daily routine.👇👇

The Body Cardio adds data to HealthKit as data sources, visible to Apple’s Health App and some extra measurements into their own Health Mate app. The BPM connect, the same with blood pressure and heart rate, even taking three readings sequential and taking the average.

So far the outcome is favourable, but I’m still a way from my goals. Also I’d just like Apple to add a non-intrusive way to monitor blood glucose at source from a future Watch series.

Not sure if you’re doing this already but tracking quality of sleep is another key part of my health monitoring. The new sleep stages view in iOS 16 provides a pretty interesting breakdown of my night – especially when I correlate it with when/what/quantity of food and drink. Pretty easy to guess that too much, too late results in a lousy night’s sleep but seeing the data really brings it home.
